The Mighty Newts! (Thinking back to the year 1986)

When I was a young child I went to the pet store and saw these awesome looking animals. They were salemander looking creatures called Newts. One species caught my eye and interested me to buy it. It was an Eastern Newt. It had a tiny lizard shaped body masked with cool shades of orange and a cute tiny smile that I couldn't resist. At that age, "It was total coolness!" It was the only Eastern Newt left and I didn't want it to be alone, so I decided to get a few friends for it! Only two other newts were left and they were called Fire Bellied Newts. They were ugly in their own way (not as cool as the original) but I wanted my cool looking Eastern Newt to have friends!

I created their world and it made me feel God like! I was the soul that created their environment, decided when they'd eat, and if their world became dirty or disgusting, I had the power to clean up and make it healthy! It was so exciting in my young mind. Then about three days later when I got home from school, I realized something about this world I created. Something that will stay in my life forever.

When I got home to check on my little friends, I noticed my favorite Newt was dead. The two other newts bit it to death! I held the Eastern Newt in my hand doing what I could to help it, but it was beyond life. At that age, I didn't understand why this had to happen. Then I began to grow up and started understanding the world I made and the world I lived in.

Even though this creature was cool in my mind and made me happy, because it was "different" it was forced to die! KILLED! Killed by a race that didn't want its unnatural existance. Destroyed by creatures that their simple little minds couldn't understand. I now realize that I live in the same society as the Newts. Even some Christians who are supposed to follow Christ and love everyone have tried to crack down on different people and people like myself.

I'm tired of all this garbage. Why are people so threatened by other's views and thoughts? Why do people still have this mindless animal instinct to destroy what is different or original? If God is disgusted by our world and humanity, I can understand why.

(This experience could have been two males fighting over the female)
(Could have been a fight over territory where the Eastern Newt lost)
(I think my story sounds better though)
